“An House of Prayer for All People” is embedded in the very substance of the Pioneer Memorial Church building. Yet for decades, important functions of the church congregation did not fit in the original church structure. The massive expansion in the late 1990’s that added the “wings” to the church more-than-doubled the space available for ministry and finally brought all functions such as the older Children’s Sabbath Schools and a Commons area into one facility. There was still one significant issue that was not fully addressed- access to the Sanctuary for those with limited mobility.
The wheel-chair lift that was a part of the “wings” expansion soon proved to be significantly hindering and unreliable. Unfortunately, it would take 25 years or so before a full-size elevator and other minor improvements became a reality. Pastor Dwight Nelson, in the spring of 2023, encouraged the Pioneer Memorial Church board to initiate the construction and fundraise for a full-size elevator also called Renovate 2.0. The Board agreed. That elevator is now completed and its funding nearly so!
As shown in the newly released video (to be shown during the church service soon and online), the elevator has met a significant need for young and old. In the video, the users of the elevator express a deep and abiding gratitude for its existence and the access that it provides. It is a blessing for so many. As you consider your giving plans for this year, please include the Renovate 2.0 project. We are so close to the goal! Let’s finish Renovate 2.0 soon! Thank you in advance for your support!
