Camp Sagola
Camp Sagola was purchased around 1960 by Elder LaVern Pomeroy, and later sold to the Michigan Conference at cost. A hotel on an island in Lake Superior was dismantled and transported to Sagola, where it was reconstructed as a lodge. There are eleven cabins with heat and electricity. There are 12 camper sites with electricity, tent sites and a centralized bath house. A dock and boat house along with beach improvements have upgraded the lake front. The large auditorium has a capacity for about 400 people.
Recently, due to a fire in the main lodge, Camp Sagola was rebuilt and updated as much as possible with the funding available. However, there are many updates that remain as well as the finishing of the basement facilities, which include rooms for lodging and meeting space, which is in great demand as Camp Sagola expands.
Camp Sagola serves as the Upper Peninsula center for youth camps, the U.P. campmeeting, and other U.P. events. Programs include Junior Camp and Youth Outpost,Teen Snow Outing in February, Men's Retreat in early Spring, Spring Retreat in May, U.P. campmeeting in early August, Women's Retreat in September, and a Fall Retreat in October. The camp also hosts other workshops, seminars, and meetings as well as Pathfinder events for the U.P. The camp facilities are also available for use during non-program times. Please give generously to support Camp Sagola on this 5th Sabbath offering. Thank you!
